David’s is one of the most enterprising clients under the technical farming sector in the Mango Fund portfolio who has registered significant growth in the business operations. The client established his business in 1996 in western Uganda specializing in commercial sugarcane farming and spirit distillation for both domestic and industrial markets. Over the years, the company has grown significantly, supported by strategic investments from Mango Fund.

Since 2017, Mango Fund’s investments have played a crucial role in enhancing David’s business efficiency and expanding its capabilities. The initial investment enabled the purchase of five tractors, eliminating the need for outsourced tractor trailers and significantly reducing operational costs while boosting productivity. The acquisition of a heavy-duty standby diesel generator ensured consistent power supply, overcoming frequent outages that had previously disrupted production. Further investments included two additional tractors with trailers, which streamlined sugarcane harvesting and delivery, and also allowed the business to offer mechanized tillage services to smallholder farmers, generating an additional income stream. 

Additionally, Mango Fund’s support helped the company replace an aging reverse osmosis purifying machine with a modern system, improving the quality of the spirits produced by reducing impurities and enhancing the business’s competitiveness.

In 2024, with increasing production and limited storage capacity, Mango Fund’s 5th investment enabled David to purchase additional storage tanks, allowing the business to handle its expanded output more efficiently. This investment also facilitated the diversification of raw materials, including the incorporation of maize into the production process, further increasing the company’s operational capacity.

These investments have transformed the business, improved transportation and harvesting of sugarcane efficiency, reduced production costs, and enhanced product quality and this has led to the growth of the company’s workforce.
